What is Power Flushing?

Power Flushing is essential for the maintenance of your central heating system and boiler. Using chemical solutions to cleanse the system and remove any unnecessary waste or debris, this service will ensure your system is clear, runs as expected and prevents it from packing up in the near future.

At JW Presland we use a radiator agitator and FX2 cleaning chemicals. Then a neutralizing agent is used to make sure all the chemicals are out of the system as this can cause further damage. Call us today on 07973 530 959 for a quote on power flushing or any other of our services.

Why Heating Systems Need Power Flushing

Whenever fresh water is added to the heating system it can cause corrosion/rust to the inside of the radiators. This flakes off and builds up in the heating system as magnetite (sludge) and gives the water a dirty black color.

  • Constantly topping up the pressure on your boiler
  • Header tank pumping over
  • General leaks on the system where fresh water had to be constantly added back in

Signs You Need Power Flushing

There are a number of things to look out for that indicate you need a power flush service.

  1. Radiators not working
  2. Radiator not fully heating up (cold at bottom)
  3. Poor flow rate (boiler overheating)
  4. Dirty radiator water (such as when you bleed your radiators)
  5. Problems with the central heating pump

2 Main Types of Power Flushing We Offer

  1. Flushing a system before installing a new boiler
We include this in the total cost for new boiler installations. This is highly recommended and prevents any built up sludge or rust from causing damage to your brand new boiler, which is industry standard.
  2. Removing build up of sludge in pipework/radiators in current system
We check that your system is working as expected and if needed an inhibitor (fernox) is added. This protects the system from future corrosion and it is recommended that these are topped up every 3 years or whenever a large portion of the system has been drained down. This usually takes a day to complete depending on the size of the system and the amount of sludge build up.

Can I Do This Myself?

In all instances it is recommended that you get a professional to complete any power flushing jobs or alterations to your system. Our qualified team has completed hundreds of these jobs over the years and can get the work done in no time.
